Hakgala Botanical Gardens



  • Hakgala Botanical Gardens is one of the best places to visit in Nuwara Eliya, being one of the most alluring and beautiful gardens of Sri Lanka.
  • It is hailed as the second largest botanical garden in the island.
  • Boasting a wide variety of flora and fauna with vibrant, blooming flowers.
  • The flower beds are set in decorative patterns, depicting excellent garden architecture and landscaping.
  • It was established as an experimentation and cultivation site of Cinchona, then for tea and eventually converted into a garden.
  • Opening time: 8:00am-5:30pm
  • The plant nursery closes at 3pm

Adisham Bungalow



  • Located close to Hatton, sits an ancient stone manor surrounded by a beautiful forest, Adisham Bungalow is a popular attraction for it houses the Adisham Monastery of Saint Benedict and a relic of Pope Sylvester.
  • The Tudor and Jacobean style architecture of the house was designed by R. Booth and F. Webster.
  • The house was built by English aristocrat and planter, Sir Thomas Villiers, in 1931.
  • Jam products are made with produce from the monastery farms.
  • Opening times: on weekends, Poya days (full moon days) and public holidays (excluding Good Friday and Christmas) from 9am-4pm.

Ambewella Farm



  • The Ambewella farms consist of two farms, Ambewella farm and New Zealand Farm.
  • Since it is gifted with chilly climate and clean environment, it is home to exceptional breeds of cattle, equipped with modern technology and established with international standards in a local setting which facilitates fine quality production of milk and milk products.
  • The Ambewella Farm has Ayrshire cattle and the New Zealand Farm has Friesian cows.
  • Onsite veterinary surgeons on base for to provide 24 hour care to the cattle.
